The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies (Leiden Law School & Campus Den Haag) has a vacancy for a:
University Lecturer (1.0 fte)

Key responsibilities
• Giving lectures and holding tutorials within the various law programmes, as well as coordinating teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes;• Independent performance of research in the field of International Law;
• Assisting in management tasks within the department and faculty;
• To develop and deliver core courses in the curriculum of the Bachelor and LL.M. regular programme in Public International Law and the Leiden University College in The Hague (LUC);
• To coordinate and lead teaching activities in cooperation with other lecturers;
• To conduct high-level research in international law and sustain a strong publication record;
• To develop and lead core activities of the Centre and to seek, obtain and manage research funding or other funding;
• To assist in a collegial way in any other research or teaching-related work of the Centre.
Selection criteria
• Degree in law and excellent track record in research in international law, as evidenced by publications in leading international journals;• A completed PhD in the field of international law;
• Broad general knowledge of the International law;
• Excellent research qualities, demonstrated for example by (international) publications;
• Extensive experience and affinity with teaching and coordinating courses;
• Excellent teaching qualities, demonstrated for example by excellent teaching evaluations;
• Excellent English, spoken and written; Non-Dutch speaking candidates should be prepared to acquire a good passive knowledge of the Dutch language;
• Strong dedication and commitment to the goals and objectives of the Centre;
• An ability and willingness to work collaboratively and collegially in a team.
Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years.

The Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies (Leiden Law School & Campus Den Haag) (‘the Centre’) is a leading academic institution in the field of international law, which is focused on high-level research, education and training in public international law and global justice. The Centre is part of the Faculty of Law of Leiden University, the oldest University in The Netherlands. It hosts several international research projects, leading scientific journals (e.g., Leiden Journal of International Law), a unique LL.M. (adv.) programme in Public International Law, the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition, as well as high-quality training courses, Summer Schools, lectures series, seminars and conferences. We offer a full-time, one year term position from 1-1-2016 until 31-12-2016, with the possibility of renewal for one or two years depending on funds and performance. Salary range from € 3.324,- to € 5.171,- gross per month (scale 11 or 12, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). Salary scale depends on education and experience.Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end- of-year bonuses (8.3 %), training and career development and sabbatical leave. Our individual choices model gives you some freedom to assemble your own set of terms and conditions. Candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.
