Owen Ramsingh, who was born in Amersfoort and emigrated to the US in 1986, has been held by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since September 27, when he returned from visiting relatives in the Netherlands. In totaal is het probleem niet groter dan onder de rest van de bevolking, zeker niet als je corrigeert voor de oververtegenwoordiging van jonge mannen. Ook interessant – asielzoekerscentra zaten nooit eerder zo vol als nu, toch nam het aantal strafrechtelijk verdachten juist af. De groep overlastgevers gaat dus niet op en neer met de instroom, wat je best had kunnen verwachten. En naar het nu lijkt, zelfs niet met de verblijfsduur in zo’n centrum. Sterker, het aantal verdachtenregistraties daalde in 2024 met 13 procent. Overigens hebben de veelbesproken ‘veiligelanders’, de groep met een lage asielkans, geen onevenredig aandeel in de overlastgroep. Dat is ook tegen de beeldvorming in.
