Regional Counter- Trafficking Program Description
Heartland Alliance – Iraq Program has a regional counter-trafficking program with Iraqis and Iraqi refugees in Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon.
The program includes:
- Raising awareness and building capacity among law enforcement, courts, civil society organizations, and the general public about human trafficking
- Providing direct services to victims of trafficking (VoTs), including legal, psycho-social, and health services
- Tracking and documenting patterns and practices of human trafficking
- Conducting legislative and public advocacy
Internship Description
Heartland Alliance – Iraq Program is looking for an intern to support its Regional Counter-Trafficking Program from Amman, Jordan. The intern would assist with support of the partner organization in project implementation and evaluation; creation of training, outreach, and advocacy materials; and conducting of outreach and advocacy, as well as support of project administration and reporting.
Internship Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Jordan Counter-Trafficking Program Coordinator, the intern would be responsible for:
Event management and program support:
- Coordinating logistics of partner development events
- Producing workshop evaluations
- Assisting in the overall project implementation and monitoring and evaluation
- Assisting the regional counter-trafficking program coordinator in reporting and translation.
- Establishing new contacts and relationships within Jordan as well as regionally and internationally
Training, outreach, and advocacy support:
- Supporting the creation of training materials for the program for different target groups such as law enforcement; judges and lawyers; health care providers; NGOs; and the general public
- Designing awareness and advocacy materials for the program
- Collecting new resources on human trafficking; shelters; and programs to address trafficking and gender based violence in the region
- Drafting print articles for publication
- Helping to support the partner organization in Lebanon with news articles, brochures, leaflets, etc.
- Re-purposing HA workshop presentations into reference materials, eLearning modules and other resources for staff
Administration:
- Providing administrative and logistical support to the regional counter-trafficking program coordinator as needed, including some filing
- Creating and managing a contact and resource database
Requirements for Applicants
- Obtained or pursuing a related undergraduate or graduate degree in International Relations, International Development, Political Science, Gender Studies, International Law, Middle East Studies, or another field in Social Sciences or Humanities.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills; good with deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Creative problem-solving skills.
- Very comfortable with technology, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Google Docs.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
- Previous knowledge and work experience with issues of gender based violence, human trafficking and refugees is desirable, as well as familiarity with human rights and development frameworks.
- Previous knowledge and work experience in the Middle East and North Africa is desirable.
- Experience living abroad or working at international organizations a plus.
- Experience working with websites/blogs, graphic design, eLearning, or social media a plus.
