Niger heet een “bevoorrechte partner” te zijn van het Europese beleid. Geen enkel ander Afrikaans land heeft meer fondsen uit het EUTF toegewezen gekregen – intussen zo’n 253 miljoen euro. There are growing concerns around the Home Office’s treatment of children and young people from Albania, with legal practitioners now raising the alarm about the increasing certification of Albanian asylum applications as ‘clearly unfounded’. At the same time, significant gaps in evidence are consistently acting as a barrier to successful protection claims from young people from Albania, with zero grants of asylum or humanitarian protection out of 58 initial decisions on Albanian children’s cases in 2018. This was despite Albania being the third-most prominent foreign country of origin for trafficked children identified in the UK in 2018. Zowel van politiemensen als van advocaten hoorde ik recent over vreemdelingen die hebben uitgevogeld dat een beroep op het zijn van slachtoffer van mensenhandel een Dublinclaim frustreert. In het NRC van 23 april staat een artikel over de plotselinge toename van het aantal aangiftes: Meer migranten claimen slachtoffer ‘mensenhandel’ te zijn Slachtoffers van mensenhandel krijgen een speciale behandeling bij hun asielaanvraag. Volgens het OM zitten er kansloze claims tussen. The G.J. v. Spain Decision (App. no. 59172/12) shows many of the problems victims of human trafficking encounter to access justice. It is, sadly, one of those cases where formalities swallow justice, since the outcome could have been totally different had the Court considered that the circumstances of the case required examination, in spite of, or precisely because of the failure to comply with the “written authority” requirement of submission (Rule 36.1 and 47(5)(1)(c) of the Rules of Court). The challenges posed to the Court were interesting from the perspective of analysing the gender aspects of human trafficking and specially for determining whether the procedures for the identification of victims of trafficking that subordinate their protection to cooperation in criminal procedures against traffickers are compatible with the positive obligations arising from article 4 ECHR. Een bestuurlijke boete voor het tewerkstellen van vreemdelingen zonder vergunning en de daarop volgende strafvervolging wegens mensensmokkel levert in dit geval geen dubbele vervolging wegens hetzelfde feit op volgens het arrest van 9 februari 2016 van de Hoge Raad. Achtergrond De minister van SZW heeft aan een marktkoopman in 2012 twee bestuurlijke boetes van € 4.000 opgelegd, omdat hij twee vreemdelingen werkzaamheden had laten verrichten zonder de vereiste tewerkstellingsvergunningen. Members of the charity’s Child Trafficking Advice Centre (CTAC) spent a week in France training volunteers in how to identify vulnerable children. They found young people are being illegally transported hundreds or even thousands of miles across the world by smugglers, frequently exposing them to horrifying physical and sexual abuse. Children as young as nine living in the camp could be vulnerable to traffickers, the charity warned. Vietnamese children are especially prevalent in the camp. Rumours and lies: 'The refugee crisis is an information crisis' As refugees desperately search for reliable information, one NGO has created a rumour tracker to investigate and disprove the myths circulating the camps “Y ou need to puncture your raft before you arrive, or they’ll send you back.” “If you apply for the relocation programme, they send you to Venezuela.” “In Europe you won’t need money, everything is free.” These are just three of the many confusing rumours that migrants and refugees might hear. Some of them are downright dangerous, like the one about the raft. Others cause people to make the wrong decisions or take risks. In response, the Mediterranean Rumour Tracker project has been launched to better inform migrants of the facts.
