Oxford Department of International Development

Queen Elizabeth House, 3 Mansfield Road, Oxford

Grade 7: £29,541 - £36,298 per annum

The International Migration Institute (IMI) in the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) is seeking to recruit a Research Officer to work on a research project on 'The Drivers and Dynamics of High-Skilled Migration'. Initially funded by the Alfred P. Sloan foundation, this project recently received additional funding from the John Fell Fund.

In close collaboration with Dr Mathias Czaika (PI on the overarching project) and Dr Christopher Parsons (Research Officer who is taking the lead on the MIGRASKIL component of the project) the post-holder will play a leading role in coordinating IMIs contribution to a joint OECD/World Bank/IMI project to analyse human capital mobility globally. A researcher has already been hired in this regard and a key task of the post holder will be to liaise with all relevant parties and ensure that the data collection of this component is finished as thoroughly and as punctually as possible.

The successful candidate will also draft a number of high-quality analytical papers that draw upon the data collected, which are expected to be published in top ranking journals. This post requires: a doctorate in a relevant social science discipline (to be completed by November 2013); a sound knowledge of creating and merging databases; an advanced understanding of statistical analysis/econometrics; and excellent communication skills.

The post is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding, to start on 1 October 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be line-managed by Dr Mathias Czaika although the post holder will work with Dr Christopher Parsons on a day-to-day basis.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application

Only applications received before 12 noon UK time on Wednesday 14 August 2013 can be considered.

Interviews for this post will take place on Monday 23 September 2013.
