Vacancy: PhD Governance of Migration Temporalities

PhD Governance of Migration Temporalities Welcome to apply for a 4-year fully-funded PhD position as part of the MSC Doctoral Network MITIME: Migration and Time in Post-industrial Urban Europe. Deadline 1 Feb ’26Published 6 Dec ’25 Vacancy ID 5312      Job description This PhD position aims to investigate how complex temporalities of migration and mobility in urban contexts interact with policies aimed at migration and migration-related diversities. As migration in the cities such as Rotterdam and Bilbao becomes more complex (liquid/fluid), with growing variation in temporalities of stay of different types of migrants, national and local policies are challenged by this (increased) international as well as internal mobility. Migration and inclusion policies are often based on explicit and implicit assumptions about how long migrants intend to stay, whether they are temporary or permanent, oriented on settlement or not.

Groeten, Wytzia  Raspe BIJLAGE 1 PhD Defence Voluntary return and the limits of individual responsibility in...

Novel: Silence Is a Sense by Layla AlAmmar - A profound and life-affirming debut about migration, trauma, and the healing power of community.

(Not read it myself yet) A young woman sits in her apartment in an unnamed English city, absorbed in watching the small dramas of her assorted neighbors through their windows across the way. Traumatized into muteness after a long, devastating trip from war-torn Syria to the UK, she believes that she wants to sink deeper into isolation, moving between memories of her absent boyfriend and family and her homeland, dreams, and reality. At the same time, she begins writing for a magazine under the pseudonym "the Voiceless," trying to explain the refugee experience without sensationalizing it—or revealing anything about herself. Gradually, as the boundaries of her world expand—as she ventures to the neighborhood corner store, to a gathering at a nearby mosque, and to the bookstore and laundromat, and as an anti-Muslim hate crime shatters the members of a nearby mosque—she has to make a choice: Will she remain a voiceless observer, or become an active participant in ...

Human Rights and Migration: An Online Course

Afbeelding
Nationalist politics and the COVID pandemic have produced policies and rhetoric that limit global mobility and impose significant harms on migrants and refugees. What does the regime of international human rights say about the current moment?  What is the structure and content of human rights protections for those on the move?  This course will present multiple perspectives on mobility and human rights. Leading experts drawn from the academy and international institutions will address the most pressing issues of the day — including migrant workers, gender, racism and xenophobia, human trafficking, child migration, immigration enforcement, and forced migration. The course will provide ways to engage critically and imaginatively with these issues and consider alternative approaches to the current system.    https://zolberginstitute.org/courses/hr-migration/#recording-2   Interessant artikel?
