We, Rogier De Nijs and Erik Vink, are looking for refugees who would like to participate in helping to create a beautiful project about freedom, for the Bosch Parade 2016.
As the creators of this project, ‘Performance Voor Vrijheid’ (‘Performance for Freedom’), we want to portray the ultimate freedom. We also want to give people the opportunity to consider the question what freedom actually is. Why do people here have such a need for freedom, when they generally have never known differently? The majority of people in the Netherlands barely realise what it is to live in a situation where your freedom is questioned.
The project
For us as artists, Art is Freedom. A huge bird, floating on the water, symbolises that freedom. The bird comes to life by setting it in motion. This will be done by people who escaped their living situation, for their freedom. The bird will interact with musicians and performers found on specific spots along the route.
For as long as we can remember, mankind has dreamt of being able to fly. It goes back as far as Greek mythology (Icarus) for example, or even Leonardo da Vinci. Having the ability to fly symbolises exceeding the limits of our physical restrictions and there for is the ultimate portrayal of freedom.
We are looking for:
People who escaped their country or any other situation, to ensure their freedom, and want to participate with this project. This can be helping us build, help us with the preparations, and working with us during the performance on the water.
We are looking for all kind of people, no specific qualities needed!
However if you have a specific field of expertise, please let us know.
The performances will be on the following days:
June 16th (Thursday), June 18th (Saturday) and June 19th (Sunday).
The general rehearsal will be on June 14th (Tuesday),
There will be several rehearsals during may and June.
An introductory meeting will take place on Wednesday, march 30th.
Location: building site Bosch Parade, DMT Loods, Copernicuslaan 80a, 's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch).
