VACANCY: Junior researcher migration and housing
Migration
is high on the political agenda. It is important for the regional
economy and society as a whole. Migrants need housing the moment they
arrive in the Netherlands. This has become an increasingly urgent issue,
partly due to increasing regional housing market shortages.
As an employee at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency in The Hague, you contribute to research into the way in which various migrant groups operate and move within the housing market. You will work together with colleagues from the Department of Human Geography, Planning and International Development Studies (GPIO) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA); your research is explicitly intended to culminate in a PhD degree.
The PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency wants to contribute to a better understanding of the positive and negative effects of migration and the consequences for the housing market. They do so by means of analyses, policy evaluations, foresight studies and monitoring. The study of international migration started in 2020. You will research the housing careers of different migrant groups and investigate which factors influence this. You will work part-time as a researcher in the Urbanization and Mobility sector. You will be expected to spend part of your working week at the PBL, but you will also spend 1-2 days at the UvA. You will therefore work together with researchers from the PBL/V&M and from the UVA/GPIO. The main core of your work is independently conducting a PhD research.
A researcher from the UVA will being part of the selection committee.
At the UvA, you will be able to participate in the AISSR PhD training program and departmental activities, and to make use of other existing facilities for PhD’s.

Your duties
- You independently research the housing careers of migrants.
- You are the lead author of several international academic articles as part of your PhD research.
- You contribute as co-author to a few PBL projects.
- You are expected to complete a PhD dissertation within four years.
