So it is that the Home Office has published an ethical decision-making model . The document is intended to help staff grappling with difficult moral choices in the course of their work.  This was one of the recommendations of the Wendy Williams Review into the Windrush scandal, following which Priti Patel promised a kinder, gentler Home Office. Recommendation 17 of the Williams report was: The Home Office should develop a set of ethical standards and an ethical decision-making model, built on the Civil Service Code and principles of fairness, rigour and humanity, that BICS [Borders, Immigration and Citizensh...

I was never a Bush fan but what a great way to give migration a face

I was never a Bush fan but what a great way to give migration a face and criticize current leadership's vision on migration (more or less "if you cannot bed them and marry them you just turn them away at the border"). "Bush has criticized the state of modern immigration discourse. In 2018, on the day after the Trump administration issued guidance for asylum seekers at the border that threatened thousands of individuals with being turned away before they could plead their cases in court, Bush said he was "disturbed" by the immigration debate taking place in the United States. Bush has also praised the nation's immigrant history as "a blessing" while calling for comprehensive reform." The migrant slave trade is booming in Libya. Why is the world ignoring it?

Afbeelding
I’ve seen the dangerous route to Europe through Libya, with thousands of people at the mercy of cruelty for profit. But our leaders prefer to keep them there ‘We have a heightened responsibility towards Libya because of the role Britain played in bringing down the Gaddafi dictatorship.’ Photograph: Dave Williams/Sound Ltd It’s a mass grave that we don’t need the United Nations to verify. Every day an average of 14 migrants, the vast majority from countries in sub-Saharan Africa, die crossing the Mediterranean. Many more see their European dream turn into a nightmare long before they’re corralled on to flimsy rubber dinghies on Libya’s beaches. They’re the victims of a silent massacre in the Sahara desert – a journey more deadly than the crossing from the coast, according to the International Organisation for Migration Come the spring, thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing poverty and violence will die in Libya, but I doubt you’ll hear much about...
