Research project ‘Euromix: Regulating mixed intimacies in France, Italy or United Kingdom’
This project answers the question If, when and where mixed sex, relationships and marriages were regulated, how they were regulated, how and why these regulations developed and how couples were affected. Each PhD-project focusses of on one of three countries: France, Italy of United Kingdom.
The methodology used in this project will be a combination of historical and socio-legal analysis.
Tasks
• conducting research - resulting in a PhD thesis in the form of a book and/or articles in academic journals;
• (limited) undergraduate teaching.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with a Master Degree in a relevant field (e.g: history, law, anthropology, sociology). Candidates should have a demonstrable interest in historical (archival) research and should be qualified to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
If candidates have equal qualifications on all other points, we will give preference to candidates who can speak French or Italian and English.

The appointment will be initially for 1 year. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, the appointments can be extended for a total duration of 4 years. You can find information about our excellent fringe benefits of employment at www.workingatvu.nl like:
• remuneration of 8,3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance;
• a minimum of 29 holidays, in the case of full-time employment;
• generous contributory (65%) commuting allowance based on public transport.
Salary
The salary will be in accordance with VU University regulations for academic personnel and amounts € 2.222,- gross per month in the first year up to € 2.840,- in the fourth year (salary scale 85) based on a full-time employment.
