Something I see in my
practise often as well. People who migrated even decades ago and have a flourishing career earning good salaries or having their own company see
parents abroad get old and frail and sole survivors of their
generations. Like the British government the Dutch also refuse them a
residence permit forcing people to choose between parents and a career
and family and friends here.
"Labour MP Stephen Timms, chair of
the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Immigration Law and Policy, has
secured a debate in Westminster Hall today which he hopes “sheds light”
on a policy he said is damaging the NHS.
Mr Timms told i: “Nine
years ago, the Government changed the immigration rules, making it
extremely difficult for overseas nationals working in the UK to bring
their parents here when they need to care for them. "

A senior consultant has quit his position in the NHS and moved to work at a hospital abroad blaming tough immigration rules for being unable to bring his elderly mother to live with him in the UK.
Dr Asim Qureshi arrived in England with his extended family in January 2019 and began work as a histopathologist at Kings Mill Hospital in Sutton-in-Ashfield.
He said he was shocked to find that although his wife and two daughters were able to join him, his mother was only given a six-month visa despite having lived with the family for the previous 10 years.
