Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration Internship with IOM The Hague (NL10-2021-09)
The Consular and Diplomatic Liaison Unit of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is looking for an intern to contribute to the operational implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) projects in line with the learning objectives described below.
The internship is on a full-time basis for six-months. The intern will be working for the IOM The Hague Office starting soonest possible.
Learning objectives:
- Assist with obtaining travel documents for migrants who wish to return home voluntarily.
- Gain experience with preserving relations with diplomatic representations at a consular level in the field of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR).
- Support AVRR field unit counsellors with the provision of information concerning the procedures and conditions for obtaining a travel document.
- Assist with updating existing working instructions for travel document issuance by embassies and consulates in the Netherlands and Brussels.
- Supporting the registration of travel document issuance related date in the administrative systems of IOM, as well as providing support related to payment procedures.
- Actively participate in internal meetings and provide support with organizing and preparing meetings and capturing notes.
- Assist to provide input for internal and external reporting on AVRR, the IOM website and social media.
- Undertake any other tasks as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- A degree in a relevant field, such as international relations, social science, sociology, political science or law;
- Applicants to IOM internships must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
- Experience with an international organization or NGO desirable;
- Knowledge of asylum and migration law and related processes or a proven interest;
- Excellent intercultural communication skills and able to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds;
- Able to liaise with international / diplomatic relations;
- Ability to work well independently as well in a team;
- Good organizational and administrative skills;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes;
- Excellent spoken and written English and Dutch required;
- Knowledge of additional languages, such as French, Spanish or Arabic is a distinct advantage;
- Living in or near The Hague.
Interns are expected to be covered by their own medical and accident insurance.
Interns are granted a stipend referred to as a Monthly Subsistence Allowance (MSA) as a partial contribution towards accommodation and living expenses. No other remuneration is granted for internships. Interns benefiting from any internship allowance, financial remuneration or scholarship granted by their university or other sponsoring body will not be eligible for MSA.
