Op dit moment is er veel discussie over een 1F-er die momenteel nog met zijn gezin verblijft in Giessenlanden. We merken dat veel mensen niet weten wat de 1F status van het Vluchtelingenverdrag inhoudt. Het asielrecht is ingesteld om personen te beschermen die hun land moeten ontvluchten omdat zij worden vervolgd wegens hun geloof, politieke overtuiging, ras, nationaliteit, of het behoren tot een bepaalde sociale groep (Artikel 1A van het Vluchtelingenverdrag). Het is niet bedoeld om mensen te beschermen die oorlogsmisdrijven hebben begaan en aan berechting trachten te ontkomen.
