Life stories of refugees and their cultural participation in European cities How can the stories of refugees be a part of the cultural heritage of the European cities? In which ways can these stories be presented to a broader audiences? Why is cultural participation of refugees important? These are the central questions of the Oracle of Amsterdam, a sharing and inspiring closure of the European project Specially Unknown. At this conference we want to motivate and stimulate people to think, dream and create possible, probable and preferable scenarios on the role of the life stories of refugees for cultural heritage, art productions and cultural participation in European cities. Symposium Turkey has been a candidate to join the EU since 1999 and negotiating accession to the Union since 2005. Relations have been re-energized recently over the refugee deal. The seminar will host speakers from academia and civil society with extensive expertise on EU and Turkey relations. After landmark judgments such as MSS v Belgium and Greece in the Strasbourg court and NS and ME in the Luxembourg court, the foundations of the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) appeared to be shaken. The recently agreed legislative reform of the CEAS is a chance to repair damage to mutual trust and solidarity and improve EU-wide asylum policies.
