War and Genocide in South Sudan traces the rise of a predatory state during civil war in southern Sudan and its transformation into a violent Dinka ethnocracy after the region's formal independence. That new state, Pinaud argues, waged genocide against non-Dinka civilians in 2013-2017. During a civil war that wrecked the region between 1983 and 2005, the predominantly Dinka Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) practiced ethnically exclusive and predatory wealth accumulation. Uitzetting Ondanks sterke aanwijzingen voor marteling stuurde Nederland de afgelopen jaren zeker zestien asielzoekers terug naar Soedan, in samenwerking met het autoritaire regime. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek van NRC .   Wat is het nieuws ? Justitie deed zaken met de Soedanese veiligheidsdienst NISS en andere omstreden partners , en zette in tien jaar zo zeker zestien Soedanese asielzoekers uit. Vijf van hen zeggen tegen NRC na aankomst in Soedan vastgezet, mishandeld of gemarteld te zijn door de NISS. Asielprocedure hervat via telehoren 1 mei 2020 ​ Met behulp van telehoren wordt de asielprocedure stapsgewijs hervat. Dit gebeurt omdat het vanwege de coronamaatregelen van de rijksoverheid nu niet goed mogelijk is om vreemdelingen fysiek te horen op de IND-kantoren. Hoofddirecteur Aly van Berckel ging vrijdag 1 mei in gesprek met IND-medewerkers in Zevenaar, die betrokken zijn bij telehoren. Het telehoren van vreemdelingen gebeurt via een beveiligde videoverbinding. Hierbij werkt de IND nauw samen met het Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers (COA), de Raad voor Rechtsbijstand (RvR) en de Dienst Justitiële Inrichtingen (DJI). More than 550,000 refugees made the arduous journey back to  their  countries  of  origin  in  2016,  mainly  to  Afghanistan,  Somalia  and  Sudan.  For  many  returnees,  however,  repatriation  carries  the  risk  of  de  facto  internal  displacement  (if  they are unable to go back to their place of origin or sustainably integrate elsewhere) or secondary displacement (if they are forced to uproot their lives again). This demands a more holistic approach to durable solutions that integrates planning and policy for internally displaced people (IDPs) with that for returning refugees to mitigate the risk of people being caught up in secondary, multiple or pendular movements. Hardly a day goes by without discussions about the refugees who are crossing international borders. However, there are tens of millions of refugees who do not get to leave their country of origin. These ‘Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) are barely discussed on the news. Who are these IDPs and what is their position under international law? What are their rights and which actors have to provide them with those rights? Examples of well known countries with a high number of IDPs per capita are Syria, Iraq,the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. However, there are countries with a high number of IDPs that are not known to the general public. Among these countries is Azerbaijan, which has more than 600 000 IDPs due to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. In 2011, all eyes were on the Dadaab refugee complex in northern Kenya as it received hundreds of thousands of Somalis fleeing famine and conflict. This year, attention has shifted to the refugee exodus from Syria, even though the majority of Somalis who arrived at Dadaab last year are still there. In fact, most refugee and displacement crises continue long after public attention and donor interest wane, and others never make it into the spotlight. This often leaves the UN’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and aid organizations with the difficult task of assisting large populations of refugees, forced migrants and internally displaced people (IDPs) without sufficient funding, political will or support from the international community.
