  Why is the Commission issuing new guidance? In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the EU has put in place a restriction on non-essential travel to the EU mid-March 2020. The Commission set out categories of persons that should not be covered by these restrictions. Following a Commission proposal, the Council adopted on 30 June 2020 a recommendation on the gradual lifting of the temporary restrictions on non-essential travel into the EU, including an initial list of countries for which member states should start lifting the travel restrictions at the external borders. A coherent approach to interpreting which categories of travellers are exempted from the restrictions is essential. The EC recommended that the travel restrictions for non-essential travel should be lifted for travellers from the following countries. Check with the local embassy (VFS) if you can apply for a visa (if you need one) or when they will start processing applications again. · Algeria · Australia · Canada · Georgia · Japan · Montenegro · Morocco · New Zealand · Rwanda · Serbia · South Korea · Thailand · Tunisia · Uruguay (China, subject to confirmation of reciprocity) Residence in a third country for which the restrictions on non-essential travel have been lifted should be the determining factor (not nationality). This list will be reviewed each 2 weeks using the European Commission’s checklist that was published on 11/06/2020.  Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Travel and Visa Supervisor and within delegated authority, the Travel and Visa Assistant is responsible for the following duties: Receive, log and route applications for visa, residence permits and other entitlements (i.e. purchase of tax-free vehicles, applications for Dutch driving license, tax-free goods, etc.) for STL staff members and other personnel working at the Tribunal and their family members forming part of their households appropriately.
