With her father dead, Eliamma has no choice but to escape the holocaust of her Syrian homeland. The safety of Sweden beckons, but standing in her way is a vengeful smuggler and a storm of anti-immigrant hatred. American expatriate Rob Kingston wants to help her--if they can survive their plunge into the sinister world of international art forgery. Eliamma is a teenage Syrian refugee on the run in Vienna. She's being hunted and she's alone. When an accidental encounter brings her under the protection of American art forger Rob Kingston, the consequences are unexpected and devastating. The time is now, as waves of men, women and children sweep across Europe, desperate to escape the chaos and horrors of a war-scoured Middle East. Into this cauldron plunges Eliamma, a Damascene Christian hoping to find sanctuary in Sweden...

U kunt hem lezen met de gratis Kindle App. Geen idee of het wat is. A raw account of a young American abroad grasping for meaning, this pulsating story of violent protests, illegal border crossings and loss of innocence raises questions about the futility of borders and the irresistible power of nationalism. Illegal tells the true story of love and deception, revolutions and deportations as it chronicles the trials of John Dennehy. Naïve New Yorker, Dennehy refuses to be part of the feverish nationalism of post 9/11 America. His search for hope takes him to Ecuador, where he falls in love with firebrand Lucia, who perfects his broken Spanish while they find solidarity in the brewing social upheaval. Amid the unrest, Dennehy is arrested and deported to the United States but he has found something worth fighting for. ...

About this course: People have become more critical of European policy and often seem to prefer local policy solutions in response to globalisation problems. How do you experience EU policy? Does it help? And if not, how can we change this? In this course, we learn how EU policy is made, and how policy is transferred to member states and implemented by various authorities, including regional and local governments. We discuss the challenges of the European multi-level governance structure. We also focus on the main causes of policy failure or success. On this journey, we focus on actual policy and present the views of various experts: how easy is it to establish yourself in another EU-country? How do governments make sure that the air you breathe is clean? And who is responsible? You will be able to do research together in your own local setting. Research on implementation in which you can make comparisons between different countries or areas. If you live outside the EU, this is...
