Improved access to the Dutch labour market
From April 1, 2017, highly skilled migrants, scientific researchers and students have gained broader access to the Dutch labour market. Now, the employment status on their residence card includes the possibility to work as a self-employed person. Scientific researchers are free on the labour market; meaning they can accept work in paid employment, next to their position as a researcher. Making use of the self-employed option If you want to make use of the self-employment option, you do not have to apply for a new residence card first. You can go to the Chamber of Commerce directly to register your company.
