Slovakia: Immigration Bulletin – Highly Skilled Foreigners May Now Apply for EU Blue Cards New immigration legislation in effect since July 20, 2011 The Slovak law on border control and stay of foreigners has been amended in accordance with European Union standards. The new law came into force on July 20, 2011 with the basic objectives of improving migration management in compliance with European legislation. To attract highly skilled workers from third countries, new provision of temporary residence is introduced in the form of the European Union blue card. A blue card applicant must have a written commitment from potential employer for a job position which matches applicants qualifications. Application must be supported by higher education certificates and / or documents proving minimum five years of professional experience.
